The painting by the famous Austrian painter Gustav Klimt was put up for auction on April 24. The auction process started with an opening bid of 29 million dollars. The painting, which was valued at 50 million euros, was bought for 32 million dollars. The identity of the buyer of the painting, which was sold well below its value, was not disclosed.

A key figure of Vienna Art Nouveau, Gustav Klimt exemplifies late-century Austrian modernism better than any other artist. Portraits of women are rarely sold at auction.
