According to the United Nations definition, the child population, including the 0-17 age group, constituted 48.5 percent of the total population in 1970, while this rate became 41.8 percent in 1990 and 26.0 percent in 2023.
According to population projections, the child population rate was predicted to be 25.6 percent in 2030, 23.3 percent in 2040, 20.4 percent in 2060 and 19.0 percent in 2080.
It was also seen that Turkey’s child population rate was higher than EU member states, with 26.0 percent.
MERSİN RANKS 11th IN THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN
According to the ADNKS results in Mersin, by the end of 2023, the total population was 1 million 938 thousand 389 people, while the number of child population was 512 thousand 875. Mersin ranked 11th in Turkey with this number.
While the average rate of children in the total population across Türkiye was 26 percent, it was 26.5 percent in Mersin. With this rate, Mersin ranked 26th in Türkiye.
While 118 thousand 779 of the children in Mersin were between the ages of 0-4, 152 thousand 154 were between the ages of 5-9, 150 thousand 913 were between the ages of 10-14 and 91 thousand 29 were between the ages of 15-17.
MERSİN RANKS 33rd IN THE NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN
